Chapter 324: Chapter 324: Jessica
She also "accidentally" let her chest shift forward whenever a man of authority happened to pass by. And strangely enough, these accidents only happened in front of influential men.
’Her personality is good,’ Ivy thought, ’but her intentions... not so pure.’
Jessica wasn’t a bad person; she was just a woman who wanted to climb ladders using the path she believed worked best.
A little too flirtatious, a little too eager to please, and a little too dramatic at times.
But she wasn’t malicious, and she wasn’t harmful, at least not on the scale that Ivy cared about right now.
Her plus point was her serious work attitude, and Ivy genuinely appreciated that.
Even the most pitiful have something hateful about them.
Jessica swallowed, then nodded quickly. "Yes, yes, of course. Thank you, Miss Ivy!"
For a second, Jessica hesitated. As if remembering something, she leaned closer and whispered, "Miss Ivy, I also heard... Some people are complaining."
Ivy raised an eyebrow. "About what?"
Jessica bit her lip, clearly debating whether to continue.
"They say the hospital isn’t getting enough supplies. That the rich get more, and the poor get less. They’re starting to blame the base administration."
Ivy’s gaze turned cold.
’So complaints have begun.’
Previously, due to her worry, she might have come forward to explain, but this time, Ivy decided to do an investigation. Before knowing the situation, she won’t know whether the staff was being unreasonable or whether it was the citizens.
After Jessica left, Ivy asked the pickup trucks in the base to transport the saline.
While Ivy was away from the base, Martha had implemented the pickup trucks inside the base, reducing the time.
Once done, Ivy gathered her family members and said grimly,
"I want your help to test something."
"Sure! Just say the word!" Ember patted her chest.
"Here is the plan..."
After Ivy finished, Ember, Felix, and Kael exchanged glances before Ember said with a hesitant expression,
"Can we postpone it?"
"Hm? Why? It’s a pressing matter." Ivy explained and turned her gaze to Felix and Kael. All of them looked away.
"Actually, we..." Ember began but paused midway and looked at her brothers for help. Felix and Kael sighed before Kael explained, "We have prepared a surprise for you tomorrow. Can you shift this sting operation from tomorrow to today or the day after tomorrow?"
"What surprise?" Ivy asked slowly.
Kael sighed and rubbed his forehead. "We... prepared something important. And the preparations will take the whole morning tomorrow. If we run a sting operation at the same time, the surprise will be ruined."
Felix added, "It’s for your benefit."
Ivy raised an eyebrow. "My benefit? What exactly are you planning?"
Silence.
No one answered.
Ember glanced at Felix. Felix glanced at Kael. Kael pretended to find his shoes extremely interesting.
Ivy’s patience began to run thin.
"Alright, let’s do it today."
The siblings heaved a sigh of relief and quickly wore the disguise.
2 hours later, all of them set out for the hospital and arrived there.
The hospital was nothing more than a one-floor building. The ground floor was littered with many people; there was also an emergency surgery room, which was partitioned into many different sections to treat the patients.
The first floor of the building was filled with patients who were being treated and were recovering.
There was also a small reception desk, where the clerk was constantly registering the newcomers.
The pungent smell of disinfectant mixed with sweat, blood, and the bitter odor of antiseptic herbs lingered in the air, creating a suffocating heaviness that clung to the throat.
The moment Kael entered with ’unconscious’ Ember and shouted for help. A male nurse rushed to Ember’s side and stated to Kael, "You should go and register the patient’s details."
Kael gratefully nodded at the male nurse, who brought Ember to one of the areas partitioned by curtains.
Instead of leaving, though, his eyes flashed with a glint, and his hand slowly moved to Ember’s collar, and he leaned toward her collarbone.
"What are you doing?" Kael’s furious voice sliced through the cramped hospital space like a blade.
The male nurse jerked back instantly, his hand freezing mid-air above Ember’s collarbone. His expression shifted too quickly, from startled to nervous to defensive, revealing far more than he intended.
"I... I was just checking for injuries!" he stuttered, panic flickering through his gaze as he stepped back.
Kael’s jaw clenched. His entire body radiated a simmering rage, the kind he rarely revealed. He took one step forward, placing himself between Ember’s unconscious form and the nurse.
"In her collarbone?" Kael growled, voice dangerously low. "Do you think I’m blind?"
The nurse swallowed hard. "It’s protocol! Sometimes patients faint due to clavicle trauma..."
"Protocol my ass," Kael said, his glare turning lethal. "If you touch her again, even by accident, I will break your hands."
The nurse’s face drained of color.
Other patients looked over, sensing the tension, but the curtains and overcrowded chaos muffled most of the commotion.
"You are crazy." The male nurse murmured and left. Kael suppressed his anger and noted the male nurse’s name before turning toward Ember, who was looking at Kael with an arched brow.
Both of them had only one thought...
’Wow, within just five minutes, we caught the first corrupt person.’
The next 10 minutes passed peacefully before a doctor named Doctor Hale. After checking Ember, she shook her head and explained, "I don’t find anything wrong with her. You should take her back."
Kael and Ember were secretly surprised, but Kael continued to play the part of a despairing brother and explained, "Ma’am, something is definitely wrong with her; please check her properly!"
Before Doctor Hale could even speak, another voice, mixed with authority and calmness, sounded, "Let me check."
When they turned around, Kael saw a young man wearing gold-rimmed glasses and having a gentle aura.
"Doctor Timothy, nothing is wrong with her..."
"Doctor Hale, please go and check on someone else."
