Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Layared Security
After thinking for a long while, Ivy answered, "Let’s find a few superhumans with the ability to detect lies. We should also include a few psychologists in the background verification team."
Hearing Ivy’s words, though surprised, Martha nodded and took notes.
"This will help us filter out psychos... however, the main problem would still lie with those having the ability to lie, and what if the person is good now but turns bad later..." Ivy massaged her temple and murmured.
Suddenly, she was reminded of someone, and her eyes brightened. "Sh*t! Why didn’t I think of him?"
Slowly, a plan formed in Ivy’s mind, and the curve of her lips turned upwards.
"Go and call Felix."
However, Martha didn’t rush to execute the task right away. "Um... which Felix?"
There were many Felixes in the base; if she called each one of them out... God knows how long it would take to find the one Ivy wanted.
Yet she had a strong instinct that Ivy was calling for her brother Felix.
"Alana’s husband," Ivy explained, her hands already on the paper as she started to formulate the plan.
Soon, Martha returned with Felix, while Ivy continued to draft the security plan.
On seeing Felix, Ivy motioned him to sit down and explained, "I want you to transfer to the background verification department and help me judge people based on their deeds from past lives."
Felix understood Ivy’s thought process. Martha had briefed him about the situation. But the problem was...
"I can see only a person’s past life in a day."
The rate at which the base was recruiting citizens was so fast that even if Felix used up his entire life... Maybe he won’t be able to see everyone’s past.
"You don’t need to see everyone’s future." Ivy shook her head and explained in a calm voice, "Only the selected few."
Turning her gaze to Martha and Felix, she explained,
"We will create a layered structure of background checks. In the first level, we will place 3 lie detector superhumans and 2 psychologists. They will help us filter out 90% of ordinary people. The remaining 10% will be filtered in the second level. The second level will consist of superhumans with the power to see the past. 9% out of 10% of humans will be filtered out by then."
Martha’s eyes sparkled in understanding, while Felix understood what Ivy meant.
Sure enough, the next second, Ivy continued, "The third layer will consist of a superhuman with the ability to see past lives, aka... Felix."
Felix frowned and asked, "I think by the second layer, most of the serial killers will be eliminated from the background verification. Why the need for the third step?"
"Because serial killers are not the only danger."
Felix blinked, confused. Martha’s breath hitched slightly.
Ivy continued, her voice composed but chilling with every word.
"Even if we eliminate murderers, manipulators, and criminals in the first two layers... we will still miss the most dangerous kind of people."
Felix frowned. "Who?"
"People who don’t commit crimes," Ivy answered, her eyes darkening, "but whose past lives are drenched in blood."
Felix’s breath caught for a moment.
Ivy tapped her pen again, explaining slowly,
"Some people are genuinely innocent in this life. They have no criminal record, no suspicious behavior, and nothing that suggests danger... Yet they might become corrupt."
She looked directly into Felix’s eyes.
"Those are the people who, if given the opportunity, can become ticking time bombs."
Felix’s expression shifted subtly, realization dawning on him.
Ivy continued with a grim expression, "Also, we will recruit a superhuman who has the power to control the computers. She or he will be present from the first layer of security."
"Understood." Martha took notes and nodded while Felix was filled with admiration.
Ivy’s steps may seem extreme, but she was eliminating the future dangers with just a few extra steps, making the already safe base even safer!
After Felix and Martha left, Ivy felt the strange tug and immediately entered her temporal storage and murmured, "I want electrolyte powder."
As if to answer her call, the next second, packets and packets of electrolyte powder started to fall from the sky, and Ivy calmly watched the scene with satisfaction.
After 25 minutes, the powders stopped falling, and Ivy checked the quantity. Then, she multiplied the items and suddenly received a prompt.
[The upgrade requirement has been met. Would you like to upgrade? The upgrade cost is....]
"Yes!" Ivy spoke, and the next second, she was teleported out of the temporal storage, and she smiled.
Finally, progress!
Honestly, Ivy was frustrated by her progress. Neither superpower was evolving at all, and even the condition to upgrade the temporal storage wasn’t met.
It was only when the kindness energy she had obtained from rescuing the trafficked people was processed that the upgrade requirement was met.
"Oh sh*t... I forgot about the special feature!" Ivy murmured in disappointment. Because of so many things happening simultaneously, she hardly had the time to check it out.
"I will check it after the upgrade." With that thought, Ivy returned to her house and saw Jessica standing outside her house with a troubled expression.
Seeing Ivy, she rushed toward Ivy like she was a thirsty man dying for water. "Miss Ivy, thank god you are here. The hospital is running low on intravenous saline..."
"I understand. I will ship the next batch," Ivy stated in a businesslike tone; however, in her heart, she sighed.
Jessica was, in fact, in charge of the makeshift hospital in the base.
Personally, Ivy had a neutral impression of her due to Jessica’s nature.
When Ivy was residing at her base and was angry at Silas, she had gotten to know about Jessica.
Jessica always had good things to say about others, and she loved to do charity work. Of course, this charity was done whenever a man with a higher post was available.
She also ’unintentionally’ showed off her assets. Sometimes she bends too much, and sometimes her pants slip down her waist because of how slim her waist is...
