I decided not to stay there since the place had turned into a warzone and I don’t fancy getting wiped there.
Sure, I can respawn, but that’s time wasted when I could be hunting down people to kill.
Also, dying is cringe.
Look, I just found one poor guy who was wandering around looking all lost so I just went up and stabbed him in the back with my energy blade and that’s another ten points for me~
Sure, I may get more points by participating in the large fight, but I might also get taken out and respawn in a bad place far away from everyone else which may cause my points per minute to drop.
With my current strategy, I’m getting quite a consistent amount of points with minimal risk so I think I’ll just stick to this for now unless I see an opportunity to reap a lot of points in one go.
Hmm... I’m not sure what the top scorer has but I believe as long as I’m in the top twenty it should be fine... Too bad there’s no way to see the leaderboard here.
I saw a few more plumes of smoke up ahead and I decided that would be my next target, turning away from the Exo-Knight I just defeated where it lay collapsed in the ruins of a building.
The plume of smoke led me to what looked like some kind of mining pit that stretched deep down into the bowels of the ground and I could see flashes of gunfire in the darkness of the hole.
The smoke had come from several Exo-Knights that had been destroyed at the edge of the hole.
From their positions, it looks like they fell into this pit and tried to stop themselves from falling into the hole but someone or something destroyed them when they stopped at the edge.
Still... Why would you want to fall into the pit willingly? It doesn’t even look like you can climb back up if you were to fall i-
I felt a sudden force push me from behind and I found myself stumbling forward, my foot stepping on empty air as I fell into the pit.
I turned around just in time to see an Exo-Knight with what looked like a grenade launcher hiding in the shadows of a building, the barrel still smoking from firing at me.
Fuck... This was a trap!
I fell into the pit and I tried to dig my hand into the ground to slow down my descent.
But the ground around me started exploding in small dust clouds, indicating someone was shooting at me.
Looking behind me, I saw a pair of Exo-Knights shooting ballistic autocannons at me from the other edge of the pit.
It was clear they were working together since they were standing side by side and choosing not to fight each other but to shoot at me instead.
That means that this whole trap was orchestrated by more than just one person?! These people are teaming!!
How the hell did they even make this plan? Is there even a way to communicate in this simulation?!
Tch... There’s several other buttons in the cockpit that I don’t know what the purpose of them were so maybe these guys managed to figure it out and sought their friends to team up?
But I don’t understand... This isn’t a team game, is it? Even if your total score as a team is the highest, only the person with the highest score is accepted. So why would they plan for a trap like this?
More explosions wrecked the ground near me as I continued to slide towards the hole.
That was when I realised... These guys weren’t trying to kill me... They were trying to get me inside the hole. Only if I were to stay outside would they really try to kill me.
They’re literally trying to get people inside the hole so their teammate that is inside that hole can get the kills!
These people never intended to be amongst the top twenty! They’re just helping one of their teammates reach the top twenty!
Shit... That means if I stay up here, I’ll get destroyed and if I go down there, I’ll probably get destroyed too.
Fuck it, I’ll take my chances.
I released my grip on the ground and turned around to speed up my descent towards the hole while I equipped the autocannon in my hand.
The two Exo-Knights that were shooting at me from the edge immediately stopped firing when they realised I had resigned myself to my fate.
The fact that they didn’t even try to whittle down my shield meant they were absolutely confident that I would die down there.
I dropped into the hole, seeing the darkness that was occasionally being lit up by flashes of gunfire below.
I looked around the cockpit, wondering if there was some kind of button that would allow me to see in the darkness.
I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for so I just randomly pressed the first button I saw.
My screen suddenly lit up as lights from somewhere on my Exo-Knight shone the space in front of me, bright enough to illuminate a good area in front of me.
Just in time, I realised I was falling right on top of an Exo-Knight who was surprised at the sudden spotlight shining down on them and tried to look up.
The only thing they saw was my autocannon firing down at them, shattering his shield before I crashed down on top of him.
I thought I would smash him into the ground but I bounced off of him and went back up into the air for a moment before falling back down again, the Exo-Knight I landed on receiving completely no damage.
Seriously? What kind of lousy simulation is this that it doesn’t even account for this type of damage?! Did this guy spend all his money on the VR Capsules that he didn’t have enough money to get an actual good simulation?
I aimed my autocannon at the Exo-Knight I bounced off of and finished it off with a few more shots, destroying it before it could fire back at me.
I quickly scanned around to see that there were a lot more Exo-Knights down here than I thought and all of them immediately turned to me since I was the only one with the light which made me a beacon for them to target.
I immediately flicked the button to shut off the lights and started shooting in the direction of where I remembered one of the Exo-Knights were.
A shield materialised which also illuminated the target, giving me a clear target to fire the rest of my shots at the Exo-Knight.
I heard the wail of bullets piercing through the space next to me, most likely the other Exo-Knights that were targeting the space where I had been before I moved.
The Exo-Knight I targeted exploded into flames and I switched on my lights again, flashing the area in front of me for a moment before I turned it off again.
I moved once again before shooting at another Exo-Knight I remembered seeing when I flashed the light, shattering their shield before destroying it.
I heard some thumping sound from behind me and I immediately spun around to shoot at whoever was behind me, only for my gun barrel to be smacked aside.
I reacted by turning on the light again and I found an Exo-Knight holding an energy blade in front of me, his hand drawn back in preparation to stab me.
But when I shone my light, he immediately stepped back and tried to shield himself from the light.
I was already aiming to blind whoever was behind me but from the way he stepped back several steps and was still shielding himself despite several seconds had passed... It was more effective than I thought.
Oh wait... I think I know what’s happening...
This is the guy who the people outside of the hole were trying to help and he probably knows how to turn on some kind of nightvision setting on their Exo-Knight to take advantage of this trap.
But when you shine light on someone who was using nightvision... They won’t be having a good time.
I pulled out my own blade and rushed at him after shutting off my lights and stabbed it into the chest of the Exo-Knight, slashing the torso open and ’killing’ it.
I shoved him away and the Exo-Knight exploded leaving me with the rest of the Exo-Knights that had been trapped down here and had no idea how to see in the darkness.
Well then... With the biggest threat out of the way... That means I’m free to kill these guys and take all the points for myself right?
Eh heh heh~ I’m glad that these guys made this trap for me to use then~
Now I guess it would be rude not to take advantage of this so... Come here and let me kill you all~
