What could he want?
"Follow me," he said, already walking off.
I followed behind him as he walked through the lodge. He said nothing, and soon we were back in his room.
"Have a seat," he said, as he leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
"I prefer to stand."
"Suit yourself," he shrugged. "I wanted to talk to you about my father. Did he say anything to you before he died?"
"He didn’t really get the chance to."
"Right, of course he didn’t, what was I thinking?" Kaelen looked a little dejected when he heard my answer.
"He was too busy facing off against Danzo and the moon princess and all the werewolves who surrounded him."
"Did he really face off against so many threats all by himself?"
"Yes, he did, and he was winning." When I said that, a proud smile appeared on his face. It was faint, but it was still there. "Even though he was overwhelmed, he still fought valiantly against them. None could stand up to him. He only lost because Danzo struck from behind and used his own daughter as bait."
"The moon princess?"
"Yes, it was the two of them who carried out the attack," I said. "I still remember the grin on the moon princess’s face when Roran carried out the final blow. It was like she didn’t possess any sense of empathy at all."
Kaelen clenched his fist, and I could feel his bloodlust rising.
"That wasn’t all she did either. I watched her rip out his heart like he was nothing. She smiled and laughed as she devoured it. Proposing a marriage with that monster was a mistake. I think Roran realized that in the end."
"Those bastards! I’m going to kill them all!" Kaelen’s eyes glowed red as he clenched his fist and stared down at the ground. His bloodlust washed over the entire room.
"I think you were right about going to face Danzo," I said. "We’re sitting ducks here. I don’t know why the others don’t see that."
"Because they are all cowards. Our grandfather may act tough, but the truth is that he is afraid of Danzo just like the others." He snarled, then reached into his shirt and pulled out an amulet.
The amulet had a red crystal glowing inside of it. Immediately as I saw the amulet, I felt drawn to it. I didn’t know why, but it was as if my spirit was being pulled in by it.
"This is the only thing Dad left me. He said it was our pack’s treasure that has been passed down for generations. He entrusted it to me. Not Grandpa. Me. I was the one he chose. He trusted me with the safety of this pack. It is up to me to protect it."
Whatever the amulet was, I could feel the power emanating from it. It was the same power that was given out by the full moon. A power that makes us stronger.
Knock Knock
Just then, a knock came on the door. Kaelen looked agitated by it, but then he took a deep breath and approached the door. Outside were three young men about our age. I didn’t know their names, but I knew that they were good friends with Kaelen. They were almost always by his side.
"Why are you here?" Kaelen asked, unable to hide the irritation in his voice.
"Um, we’re just here to pay our respects," one of the boys answered, and the others followed suit.
"Yeah, we just want you to know that we have your back."
"Roran was a great alpha, and we all respected him, but we’re ready to follow you. And it’s not just us either. There are many eagerly awaiting for you to finally claim us as part of your pack."
They all looked at him loyally. It was also at this moment that I decided to excuse myself.
"I’ll give you guys some space," I said as I stepped out of the room.
The moment I walked past one of the boys, I slipped one of my shadow hounds into the shadow without anyone being the wiser.
I closed the door behind me and sighed in relief. All in all, things were progressing smoothly.
"Umm, excuse me."
Just then, I heard a sweet voice calling out to me. A group of five girls approached me.
The lodge seemed to be crowded today.
Behind them were groups of older women. I assumed they were the girls’ mothers. I immediately knew right then and there what was happening.
"Is Kaelen alright?" one of the girls asked. She had auburn hair and spoke with a bit of sass, as if she was speaking to a servant.
"He’s processing his father’s death," I responded.
"That’s good," another blonde girl chimed in. "No! I mean, not good. What happened to the alpha was horrible, but I know Kaelen will get through it."
"Has he told you anything?" the girl with auburn hair asked.
"Like what?"
"Don’t be dumb," she snapped. "Like when he’s going to take over as the alpha and maybe... who he is going to take as his mate?"
I knew it. This was the real reason they were here. Now that Kaelen was in line to be the next alpha, they wanted the privilege of being his mate. Or at the very least, one of his concubines. This was common for female werewolves. They had a primal drive to find the most powerful mate so that their children would also be powerful.
It didn’t matter if they were already married or had a fated mate; they all shared a strong sexual attraction to the alpha. There were cases where their bodies would even start ovulating just from touching or being in close proximity to the alpha.
There brains would release a rush of dopamine just from hearing his voice. It is also said that once they have been with an powerful enough alpha, their hearts and body will forever belong to that alpha. They lose all sexual attraction to anyone else.
"No, he hasn’t mentioned anything to me."
"Tsk! Then you’re useless," she mumbled fanning me off instantly and walking away. The other girls immediately followed behind her, forgetting that I was even there.
They seemed to think that I must’ve been a servant of the house. The girl with the auburn hair did was quite a beauty thought. not quite on the level of Sylvie and Selthia but she was still gorgeous.
After that, I went back to my room where Selthia and Isabella were still sleeping soundly. I sat on the bed waiting for something, and after a few minutes, it finally arrived. It was the shadow hound I left behind.
It ran towards me, wagging its tail happily. It was also carrying something in its mouth.
"Good boy," I said, petting its head until it finally released what it was carrying in its mouth. After that, the shadow hound retreated back into my shadow while I stared at the red amulet that I was now holding in my hand.
"It does look rather interesting. The Lycann’s pack sacred treasure, huh?"
