Chapter 305: Chapter 305: Nora Anderson
Ivy, along with Silas, Felix, and Kael, was standing just a few meters away from the gate of the base when they heard the soft call.
Everyone turned around and saw a stern woman wearing dirty clothes. The woman’s eyes were brimming with wisdom, which was hard to ignore, while her naturally authoritative expression made many scared instinctively.
Right now, she was staring at Ivy with doubt in her eyes. As if she were unsure of her own words.
Meanwhile, Ivy was too confused by this new face. Did she know this woman?
After combing through her memories, Ivy finally recalled when she had seen this woman. Nora Anderson!
Nora stared as the recognition flashed in Ivy’s eyes, and she knew that she hadn’t misidentified. A soft smile appeared on her face, and she waved her hand. "Come here, child. I was waiting for you so long!"
Her words broke Ivy’s daze, and a soft light appeared in Ivy’s eyes.
In her past life, when she had attended her university, even though she was forced to hide her brilliance, many of the professors saw it.
Some of them even investigated and got to know about her difficult past. Quite a few were sympathetic and often looked out for Ivy.
Nora was one of them. She had a PhD in organic chemistry and absolutely loved Ivy. Once, she had even argued with the Ravencroft family and proposed to adopt Ivy, causing the Ravencroft family to bristle with rage.
In the end, Ivy was beaten black and blue, and Nora was filled with guilt.
At the same time, she scolded Ivy for her soft heart and even urged her to file a complaint against the Ravencrofts.
When Ivy refused, Nora started to ’punish’ Ivy by making her eat ’extra’ lunch. (Ivy always stated that she had eaten lunch even though she hadn’t, so Nora donned a stern teacher act and punished Ivy by eating another box.)
A few other teachers, too, were inspired by this style of ’punishment’ and used it on Ivy.
Ivy always appeared helpless on the surface... when in reality, she vowed to repay them someday.
In her past life, drowning in her own sorrow, she didn’t know how they ended up, but now...
"Hey, you old woman, you can’t break the line and insert a random person in!" Someone behind Nora shouted with an irritated expression.
Ivy’s daze broke because of the discordant voice, and she heard Nora’s defensive voice, "Did I say that I won’t go back to the line? That child had asked me to stand in line for her. I will move to the back."
With that, Nora even stepped away and winked at Ivy. As if warning her to take her kindness quietly.
Her attempt was so adorable that Ivy wanted to laugh. Her teacher was still the same.
She closed the distance between them and held Nora’s hand.
"Teacher, no need. I..."
"You have stepped out of the line; now you can’t enter! Neither can she!" The same discordant voice from earlier echoed.
Ivy frowned and stared at the person repeatedly stirring up trouble, and her eyes narrowed.
Hannah Blue.
The young woman had pale skin and black hair, and her features were delicate, making her appear pitiful and fragile. Maybe she had prepared well; otherwise, she wouldn’t be looking so neat and clean.
Seeing the smug smile on Hannah’s face, Ivy rolled her eyes.
"Why! I have stood in this line for 2 days straight. Why should I forget it?" Nora shouted with fury. She wasn’t a soft dough! Her legs have been trembling from standing in the line for 2 days; however, she held on in the hopes of finding a better place to live.
Hannah lifted her chin, trying to appear righteous.
"Rules are rules. If everyone starts dragging in friends, what is the point of a queue? If she wants to enter, she should go to the back like everyone else."
Nora took a step forward, chest heaving with suppressed anger. Just as she was about to speak, Ivy stopped her and looked at Hannah with a calm expression.
"Since you want the spot, take it, but don’t regret it later."
Hannah smiled arrogantly, thinking she had intimidated Ivy. "Good dogs like you should not block the path!"
Nora’s gaze darkened with fury as Hannah’s words echoed through the air.
She raised her trembling hand to wipe the sweat forming on her brow and the beads that had already slid down the sides of her face.
Her breathing was heavy, her chest rising and falling rapidly, yet her voice was firm and cutting as she pointed straight at Hannah.
"This behavior is completely unacceptable! Do not think we will back down just because you are kicking up a fuss."
Then Nora turned toward Ivy, her tone shifting into reprimand. It was the tone she had used many times back in the lecture halls, stern yet full of concern.
"Ivy, why are you stepping back? Are you getting scared of her? You don’t need to worry. I will take care of everything."
Ivy blinked once, then the corner of her lips curved upward. She reached out and gently held Nora’s wrist to calm her.
"Teacher, there is no need to waste words on people like her. Let us go inside."
Hannah instantly let out a mocking laugh, lifting her chin and mimicking Ivy’s tone with a dramatic tilt of her head.
"Oh, we should go inside the base, then? After all, everyone is surely waiting just for you, right?"
A few people in the crowd snickered. Some outright laughed, pleased at the idea of Ivy being humiliated soon.
Ivy did not react. She simply intertwined her fingers around Nora’s hand more securely and began walking toward the entrance. Her steps were steady and unhurried, unfazed by the murmurs.
Seeing this, Hannah’s expression twisted. She pointed at Ivy and shouted, her voice shrill and desperate.
"She is breaking the line! Someone stop her! Stop her right now!"
