Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Shy And Timid
"Finally!" Arthur plopped on the sofa with a grin on his face.
After living in the rotting apartments and makeshift tents of the military base for the past 6 months, the neat and clean houses in Silvy Base made the entire Evans family sigh in delight.
"Hey... don’t you find it strange? Why is the name of the base Silvy? It almost seemed like a property belonging to Ivy." Kate wondered; this question was haunting her from the moment she entered the Silvy base.
The atmosphere of the Silvy base was... something else!
Though the extreme heat plagued the base, there was no human fainting from dehydration, hospitals overflowing with patients, people begging for food, the rotting smell of the corpse, and no electricity all day long!
The Silvy base hardly had any people lying or roaming outside their home.
The Evans family was confused at first, but later on, they realized that the atmosphere inside the house was cool. Even without turning on the fans or air conditioner... it was cool and relaxing.
Now they truly rejoice in their decision to join the base. Though they had to wait for 5 days before they were allocated a house, nonetheless, they were still thrilled.
The only problem was... according to their consent that was taken at the time of entrance, the base may allocate a new member to their house due to the shortage of houses.
The comforting fact? At least the rent will be shared, and they won’t need to pay the full amount!
"Eh? Maybe the base owner is an admirer of Ivy, and he might have done it to impress her?" Angelina murmured as she lay sprawled across the floor of the room. A shadow flickered in her eyes.
"Nope!" Arthur dismissed, "Ivy isn’t that good enough, you know. She is timid and shy! Who would even like her?"
Arthur was so confident because of how scared Ivy had looked once he had asked her to give him a blowjob.
Though he never asked for it ever again because Silas had beaten him black and blue due to his jealousy, Arthur concluded that Ivy was a boring, shy woman.
Not to mention, he had even heard from Isla how Ivy had never received any proposal other than Silas’s relentless pursuit and surmised her as an undesirable woman.
However, he couldn’t deny that Ivy was just according to his taste. Hence, he was ready to give the position of main wife to her!
"You are blind." Angelina rolled her eyes. From the bits and pieces she had heard, she knew how many men had liked Ivy.
"Shut up! You don’t have a say. At least I am not blind enough to get engaged with a guy who runs away, and his family goes missing too!" Arthur harshly chided.
Whenever he thought about how the future brother-in-law, who was supposed to lead them to a good life, vanished midway, fury burned inside him.
"Arthur! It’s not her mistake!" Kate chided. Though she hated the Ravencroft family and Damian, too, she accepted that it wasn’t her daughter’s mistake.
A shadow flashed in Angelina’s eyes, but she maintained a neutral face and stated, "Even I didn’t know he would betray me, but life moves on, I guess?"
"Mother, why not sell her to regain some of the grains as mental compensation? How long is she even planning to stay hung up on the Damian guy?"
Kate’s head snapped toward Arthur, her expression darkening instantly.
"Arthur Evans!" she hissed, her tone sharp enough to make even the confident young man flinch. "Watch your mouth! She’s your sister, not some stranger you can sell for food!"
Arthur shrugged, unbothered. "I’m just saying, Mom. We’re barely surviving, and she’s just lazing around. Might as well make her useful."
Angelina’s hands curled into fists, but she forced a bitter smile. "You’re right, Arthur. I’m such a burden, aren’t I?" Her voice trembled slightly, though she masked it with sarcasm.
"So I have decided not to use my powers to find someone better, and even if I do, I will cut off the relationship between us! Let you all fend for yourself!"
"Sweetheart, ignore him! I will whip him." Kate consoled Angelina with pity on her face, "But what he said was indeed correct. You can’t stay single for your entire lifetime just because of a jerk, right?"
Angelina didn’t even bother to acknowledge her. She stood up and left the room.
Arthur rolled his eyes in disdain and muttered, "Let her go! She is too self-absorbed! Thank god I like someone as meek as Ivy; otherwise, if I end up a woman like her, I will cry for ten lifetimes!"
"Arthur!" Kate gasped and slapped her son’s arms. "Can’t you rein in your temper?"
"Mom! Am I saying the wrong thing? Sigh! Forget it! I will try to find Ivy and get married to her quickly; at least someone else will care for me!" Arthur shouted and showed his back to Kate as a silent protest.
Kate was exasperated. This son of hers truly doesn’t use his brain!
"Arthur, try to understand. Currently, only your sister has the power to see the success rate. If she latches herself to a good guy, we can demand a lifetime of support as a dowry!" Kate explained, her voice lowered, while she looked around to make sure Angelina wasn’t listening.
"Really?" This time, Arthur eased up and stared at his mother with a glimmer in his eyes.
If his mother was telling the truth... then he won’t be harsh on this sister of his!
"Yes. So stop doubting your mother and be nicer to your sister." Kate whispered and earned an eager nod from Arthur.
What they didn’t see was a shadow lurking outside.
Her mother was truly good...
Gentle on the surface and scheming inside. Even her daughter wasn’t spared.
’Good, then whatever will happen next... I can do it with clear conscience.’ A dark look appeared on Angelina’s face.
