I can’t believe so much happened in just one day...
So Mara basically figured that the suppressant drugs were basically useless and now the solution was just have Renata actually as my suppressant instead.
Needless to say, my Eldritch maid was ecstatic about being given that role and immediately got to ’work’ clinging to me.
Since we knew that the drugs weren’t of use, Mara dedicated the rest of her time to research the mod she was making for me.
Still, she insisted that I stay on the ship just in case something happened to me and she would be nearby to deal with it.
Thus, I was basically still confined to the medical room anyway.
Not that I’m complaining since I get to watch Mara do her stuff and it wasn’t like I had anything to do as we would be stuck on this station for at least a few days while we waited for the Zwerger Navy to bring in another group to take over the fortification of this sector.
Well, I only came here to test out my halberd anyway and I would say that was a great success.
So now I had to arrange something else which would be our next destination after we were done here.
And since this involved everyone on the ship, I only brought it up when the girls were washing the dishes after we finished our lunchtime.
Obviously I couldn’t discuss this with them while they were eating since they were all completely incapable of paying attention to anything else aside from the food in front of them while eating.
"So... I guess our next goal is to get our Exo-Knight pilot licenses."
Yumiko turned to me, "You were serious about that, Mistress?"
Ah, I only mentioned it in passing after she joined us so she didn’t know we already discussed this before she joined us.
I nodded, "Yes, I am serious about that. We have space in the hangar for an Exo-Knight or two so I thought why not add that in? I wouldn’t say no to more firepower after all. And since I would need to ge a license to pilot one, I thought I might as well enroll all of us to an academy to get a license instead of just having you girls wait for me to get it. You also need one right?"
"I wouldn’t say I need one but... If Mistress wishes for me to get one, then I will obey."
"So anyway... Where is the best place that we can get our pilot license?"
Mara was the one who answered, "Does Captain want quality teaching materials or the place with the highest likelihood of getting a license?"
"Aren’t those two conditions supposed to compliment each other instead of being mutually exclusive?" I pointed out.
She shook her head, "There are some schools that don’t operate on merit, Captain. There are some academies that would basically give away those licenses if you pay them enough. You would still need to attend them but they don’t really do much teaching and you’re just required to attend the academy for a specific time before you get the license."
I frowned, "And these types of academies are still allowed to give out licenses? Is there no committee or something that oversees these licenses?"
Amber scoffed, "You think they have some kind of auditor running around out here in the Outer Colonies to check if there wasn’t any fraud being committed? Yeah, sure. The headquarters back in the Inner Colonies would just tell the scrubs in the Outer Colonies to audit themselves and the auditors here just give their stamp of approval for any bribe they can get. The only exceptions are academies that originated from the Inner Colonies and decided to set up a branch out here themselves."
I grimaced, "Right... So I guess it’s not like they have a specific standard for Exo-Knight pilots I guess?"
Mara let out a mirthless chuckle, "If you believe the stereotypes, they say the pilots from the Inner Colonies are all about form and showmanship while the pilots from the Outer Colonies are suicidal and a waste of potential."
"Huh... I thought for sure you were going to say something like the pilots from the Outer Colonies are more focused on practicality or something."
"If you have seen the pilots in the Outer Colonies, you would not think so. Many of them do not even know the basics of piloting an Exo-Knight and think that they are invincible while in one so they just flail around without a care. In the end, they basically don’t even know the full capabilities of their Exo-Knights and a pilot that is less skilled but more knowledgeable could run circles around them easily. Aside from specialised Mercenary Companies that really focus on arming themselves with Exo-Knights, most pilots of Exo-Knights you see out here are only relying on the Exo-Knights themselves to compensate for their lack of skill."
"So you’re saying that an Exo-Knight is already a really powerful weapon?"
"Theoretically... In the hands of a really competent pilot, it could potentially wipe out a battlegroup by itself."
"And practically?"
"It has only been achieved in simulations by pilots in the Inner Colonies and those pilots haven’t really been involved with any wars to show that off in a practical sense. And the pilots in the Outer Colonies are definitely not skilled enough to do any of that. It’s a machine with a really steep learning curve you could say."
Lea also added, "Many of the pilots in the Outer Colonies use Exo-Knights like they are larger sized Power Armours in space. It’s much more than that... If one does not know what they’re doing, then they’re better off just piloting a normal ship."
Good to know...
Also, I’m sorry but that was basically what I thought of Exo-Knights as well...
"I guess in that case, we should go to an academy that would at least teach us how to use an Exo-Knight instead of just handing the license over to us for money?" I suggested.
Yumiko raised her hand, "Mistress, if you would like... We could just buy the licenses and I’ll do the teaching after we get them. I know a few contacts that would be able to supply us with genuine licenses that would pass a scanner without going through an academy."
I thought about her offer for a moment but shook my head, "As much as that sounds like a more efficient idea, I would like to see how an Exo-Knight academy looks like and what goes through a lesson for one as well. If you wouldn’t mind just indulging in this want of mine?"
"Ah, of course, Mistress. In that case, I would very much like to join you in attending an Exo-Knight Academy."
I turned to Mara and she simply gave me a nod, "I’ll find the most appropriate one that would suit our needs, Captain, you don’t need to worry."
Ries then turned to peek at me, "Does Boss want me to build an Exo-Knight for you?"
I waved my hand, "It’s alright, Ries. You already have your hands full with what you’re doing maintaining the ship and my Power Armour anyway. I don’t need you to build one especially for me."
As I said that, I noticed that her face fell in disappointment so I quickly added, "I would still rely on you to pick out the perfect Exo-Knight for us though! And I’ll leave it to you to help me customise it and maintain it if that’s not too much to ask!"
Her face immediately brightened up again and her tail swished happily behind her, "Don’t worry Boss! You can leave that to me!"
So cute~
Amber huffed, "Alright, now that that’s settled I have a question of my own, Tera! Are you a full-fledged Psionic now?!"
"No, she is not," Mara answered for me before I could say anything.
Amber pouted, "Ehh... I thought for sure that you would... Are you sure? Did you lift anything with your mind?"
Mara scowled at my blonde haired lover, "Amber... If you’ve forgotten, I already mentioned that Captain’s Psionic energy was too chaotic and volatile for her body to contain. She needs to let her body adjust to it first before she can even think about using it."
"Hmm? But shouldn’t that only take a while? She has that skill where she can adapt quickly right? So it shouldn’t take her that long for her body to adapt to it~"
I’m actually surprised that Amber thought about that.
Mara shook her head, "It’s not that simple and it doesn’t work that fast, Amber. So no, you won’t be teaching Captain how to use any Psionic abilities today."
Amber actually looked disappointed by that, "Aww... And here I thought I could show Tera how to move stuff around with her powers..."
She flicked her hand and one of the plates flew off the counter to deposit itself inside the rack of the dishwasher.
She then rotated her wrist in a circle and all the other plates that had been on the counter spun through the air and flew towards the dishwasher as well, arranging them perfectly on the rack.
Ok, that was cool. When can I do that?
